Poppa’s Worn Wallet

By Tori Puoci

One day, Poppa went shopping for George’s birthday present. Since he was tuning 11 Poppa wanted to buy George a new suit and tie.

“Howdy, Poppa. What would you like today?” said Mr. Owens, the storekeeper. “I’d like a new suit ‘n tie for George” said Poppa. “He’s turning 11 so I would like him to look more like his old man.” Poppa said proudly. “I’ve got just the think for ya” said Mr. Owens. He took out a big plaid suit. “That’s great” said Poppa. He took out his old worn wallet. “Hey, Owens. How ‘bout a new wallet?” “Sorry, Poppa, I don’t carry those. You’re going to have to go to Oklahoma city in Oklahoma. “All right” said Poppa. Set me up with everything I need for the journey.” “You’re not seriously going to Oklahoma, are you?” “Of course I am.” said Poppa.

The next day Poppa set out for Oklahoma City. It would be a very long journey but Poppa was sure that he could make it.

When Poppa finally arrived. He went straight to the store. “What can I get for you?” said the storekeeper. “By the way, my name is Mr. Johnson.” “I’ll have a new leather wallet” said Poppa. “I have lots of those,” said Mr. Johnson. “come on back and pick one out.” “What about this one?” said Poppa. “Well,” said Mr. Johnson “this one only costs $3. It’s the best one in the store.” “I’ll take it” said Poppa.

Poppa bought the wallet and proudly returned home. Just in time for George’s birthday too.
